I'm told to just trash my perfectly functioning HP w printer -- because it will not connect with Mac High Sierra It this true? Where is the download button?
Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not. If your printer is listedremove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner windowmake sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, or that it is on the same wired or wireless network as your Mac.

We use Macs in a Windows AD environment, where printers are shared out by one of our domain controllers.

Is there a profile or "payload" configuration associated with these printers?
And to confirm your comment above above about CUPS not seeing any printers, lpstat -v does not show any printers? Added the printer either as the local admin or the domain account who is also give local admin rights.

It's definitely cause by MacOS HP does not have a supporting driver for MacOS I called their helpdesk and they are not sure one will be issued, despite the fact this printer is only 4 years old. Apple Support is also not able to help.

When I come back the next day, and printer something, it's stuck in the print queue which says it's trying to connect to the printer.
This happens every time I don't use my iMac for a while. The printer is connected my wi-fi network with a good connection. Even when I can't print, I can use Safari to browse to the printer's internal setup webpages so the printer is connected to the network.

You may have luck powering the printer off and on instead of resetting the print system and having to re-add it. Oct 14, PM. Not sure if it's using secure or standard AirPrint. Restarting the printer doesn't solve the problem.
It's like the Mac cannot find the printer after a little while. I even setup a dedicated IP address for the printer on my network. But it has to be on and "ready" to print from my Mac. I also cannot print from my iPhone or iPad to this printer unless it is on and "ready".
